Gwinnett hospitals, clinics handle variety of medical needs

A county as large as Gwinnett offers variety of medical services from emergency rooms, inpatient and outpatient care to health clinics. Three hospitals with emergency rooms in Gwinnett are located in Duluth, Lawrenceville and Snellville. Gwinnett Health System is a nonprofit that operates Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville — the county’s largest hospital — and Joan Glancy Memorial Hospital in Duluth. In upcoming years, the more than 60-year-old Joan Glancy is scheduled to be rebuilt at the intersection of McClure Bridge and Pleasant Hill roads. Emory Eastside Medical Center in Snellville is not a part of Gwinnett Health System, but belongs instead to a large group of hospitals owned by health care powerhouse HCA. Emory Eastside on Ronald Reagan Parkway is also undergoing an expansion. Gwinnett Medical Center’s emergency department on Ga. Highway 120 offers the following services: n trauma care with cardiac monitoring in every room. n a trauma operating room. n a decontamination room for hazardous material emergencies n two rooms dedicated to resuscitation procedures. Gwinnett Medical Center also houses Gwinnett Women’s Pavilion, which provides maternity, education and diagnostic services as well as newborn intensive care, a sports medicine and rehabilitation center. In addition, Gwinnett Extended Care Center, also part of the campus, helps patients who need further care after they are released from the hospital. Joan Glancy Memorial Hospital is a Duluth landmark, serving the county for more than 60 years. The hospital offers the following services: n 24-hour emergency care in 11 treatment rooms. This emergency department is the oldest emergency room in the county. n The Glancy Rehabilitation Center, with inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation for clients with orthopedic or neurological problems. Gwinnett Health System also operates a psychiatric care facility called Summit Ridge Center for Psychiatry in Lawrenceville for both outpatient and inpatients. Emory Eastside’s emergency department has 18 exams rooms, a nine-room pediatric unit, four fast-track rooms for quick service to less serious ailments, a 15-bed observation unit for patients who need to stay less than 24 hours, but longer than the usual emergency room visit. It also has 25 surgical rooms as a Day Surgery Department. Another part of Eastside Medical Center, located off U.S. Highway 78 about five miles from the main campus, houses the Pain Center, Wound Care Center and Senior Mental Health. Gwinnett County also offers numerous clinics. n Gwinnett Health System’s Kids Clinic in Lawrenceville treats uninsured or underinsured children in its 16 exam rooms. n Egleston Children’s Health Care Center in Duluth offers urgent care and rehabilitation services. n The Scottish Rite Children’s Clinic in Lawrenceville provides rehabilitation and lab services. The Scottish Rite center in Alpharetta offers pediatric urgent care, rehabilitation and specialty care. Emory HealthCare operates three clinics with general and specialty care in Duluth, Lawrenceville and Snellville. Services include primary care, pediatrics, nutritional counseling, health screenings and surgery. Gwinnett County Health Department’s three clinics provide immunizations, children’s dental, health screenings, lab tests, nutritional counseling, physicals, referrals and family planning. — From staff reports
