Officer recovering from being shot

The Associated Press

AUGUSTA — A Richmond County sheriff’s investigator is recovering from his injuries after being shot in the face during a drug bust earlier this week, but the man believed to have shot him died Thursday.
Tory Knight, 27, of Wadley was pronounced dead at about 5:35 a.m. at Medical College of Georgia Hospital, Burke County Deputy Coroner Willie Jordan said.
Authorities believe Knight shot Richmond County sheriff’s narcotics Investigator Greg Meagher in the jaw during a multi-agency drug bust Tuesday night near the Burke County town of Gough.
Meagher, who has been with the sheriff’s office for nearly two decades, continued to recover at MCG on Thursday, Richmond County Sheriff Ronnie Strength said. Strength said Meagher’s injuries were not life-threatening, but he was suffering from swelling in his face.
The incident took place during an operation involving a task force with the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Knight also was shot during the drug bust, which involved the sale of cocaine, Strength said. The sheriff would not say who shot Knight, because the incident is still under investigation by his agency and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. <-->
