BUFORD - Here is a "Great Used Car Buying Story" about someone's technique for getting a great deal on buying a used car...

Used and pre-owned cars seem to be available everywhere.  Getting a really good deal can be dificult, if not impossible.  That's why I spent so much time trying to not end up losing money on what initially looked and sounded like a great deal.  

I found that by sticking with the new car dealers that have a reputation for a high level of integrity like Bill Heard Chevrolet in Buford, and getting my finances in order before I make contact - I stand the best chance of getting a great deal.

I figure out the most I can spend, and then stash $500 to $1,000 aside - just in case. 

Then I go out and make plenty of "low-ball" offers on the car dealers' lots on their used inventory.  I typically offer about 50% of what they're asking.  I like to do that about six times.

Now they're really tired of me and want to get rid of me.  Once they're absolutely sick of me, I make a cash offer of about 60% of asking price on my favorite 3 cars on their lot.  Then I act like I'm taking my business somewhere else.  The whole time they're trying to get me to fill out hours of paperwork so I can spend two to three times the car's value on interest payments over the next six or eight years. 

NO THANKS!  That's the biggest hose job out there.  Always get your car loan from your own bank and don't be a victim of car dealer's predatory financing departments.  Most of America is walking around, up-side-down in cars they'll never appreciate any value in.

Now you have cash offers on three awesome cars on a quality dealer's lot and you're almost out the door.

BINGO!  Just as you're leaving, they've accepted one of your 60% cash offers.

Believe it or not, it happens every day.

A friend of mine purchased a 2006 Ford Mustang with 18,000 miles on it for $10,000 cash just last month.  And they didn't even have to touch their $1,000 cash stash they stuck in their shoe.

Tax, tag and title were not included in this price, but you get the idea.
