Two dead in Apache helicopter crash at Fort StewartThe Associated Press
The helicopter went down in a wooded area Tuesday night, and the Army was still investigating what caused the crash, said Lt. Col. Cliff Kent at Fort Stewart. The flight was part of routine training required to maintain aviators’ combat readiness in dark or extreme environmental conditions, Kent said. The aircraft took off from Hunter Army Airfield, about 40 miles from Fort Stewart. It was assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division’s 1st Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment. The names of the soldiers killed in the crash were withheld until their families are notified. No one else was on board. The Army Safety Center was sending a team to investigate. <-->--> |
