Is Obama speaking volumes silently by passing on Hillary?

Presumptive frontrunner for the Democratic Presidential Nomination, US Senator Barack Obama taking out his "All New" running mate, Senator Joe Biden, for a test-campaign-spin in Obama's back yard.  Those standing nearby claim to have caught a wiff of that "New Running-Mate smell" trailing behind the two.

BUFORD - Did he even have a choice in the matter?  Obama needs a viable Vice Presidential running mate. Hillary would have obviously delivered many female voters, along with their partners and associates - as well as the rest of her sizeable, multi-dimensionable political base.

Is her existing and potential power base strong enough to do what it takes to win over the conventioneers?  And if so, can it take her the rest of the way back to the old neighborhood?

Are all of these activities tearing away from Democratic resources so much that they're ultimately positioning Republicans for a November win?
What will McCain have to do walk away with one finally in the win column?  Who would be a good running mate for John McCain (other than Condoleesa Rice?)

If Hillary pulls it off, who would make a good running mate for her? (other than Obama?)

The answers to these questions are just around the corner.  In the meanwhile, how many people think Obama is now running a bit behind Hillary - or quite possibly - in third place?  If so, how bad is it to be third place in a two person race?
