For the third year, U.S.consumers report Chevrolet SUV's among top 10 picks.

The picks come on the heels of its influential annual selection of the best and worst vehicles, which didn't treat U.S. brands well. Only one U.S. product, the Chevrolet Silverado, was named to the Top 10 Picks.

The U.S. list comes with several caveats. Some deserving vehicles, such as the new Chevy Malibu, Cadillac CTS, Chrysler minivans and Ford Focus, weren't considered because they haven't been around long enough to get reliability data or weren't tested by Consumer Reports. Stability control must be available, which knocked out the Ford Escape Hybrid from the green car category.

As a result, several categories were empty. The best category for U.S. vehicles: midsize SUVs, with three vehicles sharing the top pick.

2009 Traverse expected to outsell GM's other crossover SUVs

DETROIT – The Chevrolet Traverse will probably outsell General Motors’ other three midsize crossover SUVs put together after it goes on sale this fall as a 2009 model, company Vice Chairman Bob Lutz said in an interview at the auto show here today.

 “It’s going to be a huge hit for Chevrolet,” Lutz said.

GM will build the Traverse in Spring Hill, Tenn.

GM’s other midsize crossovers are the popular Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook, all of which went on sale last year and are assembled in Lansing.
