Pizza just one slice of Gwinnett’s Italian dining scene

Pasta, pizza, parmigiana — Gwinnett has it all. Whether you’re looking for a slice of Sicily or a pie on the fly, you can find it at one of the many local eateries offering Italian cuisine.
Popular restaurant chains such as the Olive Garden, Romano’s Macaroni Grill, Johnny Carino’s and Carrabba’s bring authentic and Americanized tastes to the table. Many locally owned restaurants have opened across the county as well, creating a number of options for a more intimate dining experience.
Esposito’s, an upscale eatery located at the corner of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth, offers elegantly tasteful food in a romantic, cozy atmosphere.
The restaurant’s menu covers appetizers, salads, seafood, pasta and sandwiches, as well as more than 50 wine choices — including rare Italian bottles. Along with traditional dishes like lasagna and veal marsala, Esposito’s spices up the menu with signature seafood dishes such as Crabmeat Ravioli.
Semolina International Pasta Restaurant, located on Riverside Parkway in Lawrenceville, captures flavors from across the globe to create distinctive dishes.
While Semolina, based in New Orleans, offers items from Asia and Latin America, noodles are the focus of the restaurant’s menu. Even dishes such as Santa Fe Chicken are served over pasta.
Vannisci’s, off Lawrenceville Highway in Loganville, is designed to immerse customers in the taste and ambiance of old Italy. It’s an ideal spot for a romantic dinner for two.
Recipes were handed down from the owner’s Italian grandmother, and dishes are prepared with fresh vegetables, meat and pastas. Baked Escargot, Brochette and Fried Calamari are among the traditional, but elegant, offerings.
Further up Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, Isabella’s Ristorante Italiano in Suwanee has been offering Italian food lovers dinner entrees for almost three years.
The decor mimics the feel of an Italian villa, complete with Italian artwork hanging on the walls. Dinner platters are an elegant presentation of beef, chicken, seafood, veal and pasta dishes. For a seafood treat, diners can sample linguine with mussels, shrimp and calamari or a grouper filet fried and served alongside calamata olives, capers and lemon butter sauce.
