LAWRENCEVILLE -- Current home styles fit buyers' needs and taste.

Some people in search of a low-maintenance house do not want to live in homes stacked up against one another and John Palmer was one of them. "I just did not want a townhome or a townhouse," he said.

He searched for a couple of years for just the right home solution while living in a local apartment. He found his perfect match at Kensington Creek Manor, a Bowen Family Homes Community in Lawrenceville, Georgia.

Mr. Palmer was also very intent on finding a home that would be mainetnance free for decades to come, and that's another feature Bowen Family Homes are famous for.

For years, Bowen Family Homes has been the number one builder of quality home communities in the state of Georgia and are fully committed to using genuine HardiPlank siding products from James Hardie Fiber Cement Building Products with their world famous 50 year warranty.

His Canterbury floor plan provides maintenance-free living without another family living on the other side of the wall. He chose the Canterbury style home plan for its two bedrooms and den, in addition to its angled walls and vaulted ceilings.

He chose Bowen Family Homes because he heard that they are, by far, the best home community builders in the Atlanta market today.

Plus, while he was out house shopping, he found their employees to be the friendliest of any that he had ever met. "Under those circumstances, it has been fine," he said. "They were very, very accommodating. They are just nice people and it was very easy to do business with them."

He moved in January 1, surrounded by his favorite amenities:
Marble and hardwood floors, cathedral ceilings and kitchen cabinet upgrades.

"The landscaping is going to be beautiful," he said, noting that the mature shrubs and large trees look good even in the gray of winter.

He absolutely loves his new sunroom which is flanked by a foyer and a den in his Canterbury floorplan.
Landscaping is a priority for Mr. Palmer. He noted the many evergreens and ornamentals outside the homes in Kensington Creek Manor in Lawrenceville. The community also has a park area with large trees.

Landscaping, along with mowing, fertilization, weed control and property maintenance, are only a few of the many amenities that come along with the very reasonable monthly homeowners' fee.

"We try to build a home as if we were building it for our parents, with the same detail and quality," Marie Owens states, Kensington's representative for Bowen Homes. "We focus on providing maintenance free living for individuals who are looking for such." The neighborhood features homes of genuine HardiPlank siding, cultured stone and palladium windows. For residents who love to swim in the summer, there is a heated pool, clubhouse and exercise room.

Ms. Owens goes on to describe some more of Kensington's benefits:

There are four floor plans to choose from:  the high-end Canterbury, the mid-priced Abbey and Chateau, and the smaller Villa.

Two furnished models are open for perusal:  The Canterbury and The Abbey. As in other units, the two are connected by their two-car garages, leaving each living space free standing.   Both homes give the appearance of largeness with cathedral and vaulted ceilings throughout.
A third model, the Chateau, will open sometime in February.

The 1,850-square-foot Canterbury, based at $230,000, is decorated in Tuscan style, with the kitchen open to the dining area and great room. The kitchen features Corian counter upgrades and a butler's pantry with glass-front maple-glaze cabinets.

A palladium-style window, along with a gas fireplace are the focal points of the main living area, with its hardwood floors and vaulted ceiling. A small foyer is flanked by a bright sunroom and stately den. The den is the bonus of the Canterbury, Ms. Owens said, and could be used as a third bedroom.

The master bedroom features a bath with a carpeted vanity area and his-and-hers cultured marble vanities which are separated by a lowered dressing table.   A pocket door separates the commode and shower,  which has the convenience of a built-in seat.  The split floor plan places the guest bedroom across the great room from the master. The second bath features a dramatic ceiling line, as well. "This is our most popular plan," Ms. Owens said.

Next door is the 1,700-square-foot Abbey, based at $210,000 -- and the second-most popular. The model is decorated with a cottage theme, making it a little less regal than the Canterbury, but every bit as homey with its pale yellows and greens.

The many-angled ceilings and walls continue in the Abbey, with the geometry extending to the kitchen's L-shaped Corian countertop. Glass-door cabinets are above a wrap-around counter.

The kitchen has a roomier look and, Ms. Owens noted, "lends itself to people who value counter space."
Over a half-wall counter is the dining room which, like the Canterbury, has a plant shelf beneath the vaulted ceiling.

The Abbey has a more prominent foyer, with a small window. The sunroom opens off the great room, which was aglow with a warming gas fire. The Abbey has two master bedrooms, and is ideal for single owners. The "official" master bedroom features a cathedral ceiling and palladium window, and the bath has a walk-n closet.
