GDO Report

BUFORD – Three current facts about teen drivers in the Mall of Georgia area - highlight a serious problem that has existed for several years.

These three facts only go to prove a fourth -

"For Teenage Drivers - The First Year Is the MOST DANGEROUS Year."

Those three facts are as follows:

1. Teen Drivers have the highest mortality rate of any group on the road.

2. Automobile accidents are the largest killers of teens today.

3. 'Distracted Driving' is the NUMBER ONE problem among teenage drivers.

There are three more certainties that need pointing out at this point:

1.) Teens drivers are not willing to forfeit their ability to drive simply because their age group bears the worst driving statistics of any group on the road.  That would only serve to postpone the inevitable, anyway.

2.) Installing a parent in the passenger seat to monitor and criticize every single move would be equally unproductive - as well as impractical.

3.) With the number of teenage drivers and passengers being injured or killed having risen so much in recent years, intense progress must be made to significantly reduce those numbers as soon as possible.

Nobody knows this better than the individuals of AmeriCam of Atlanta.  They've dedicated their company and their lives to creating and providing technology that helps to reduce the number of accidents in all age groups - especially in teens.  AmeriCam's regular Accident Avoidance Systems have a well-documented history of reducing accidents, injuries and deaths between 27% and 40% each year.  This has been the case for several years now.  *Figures based on the hundreds of thousands of systems in use today and the results of studies performed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

But there have been no celebrations of accomplishment or champagne toasts being made at AmeriCam.  Not yet, anyway.  This is because the dedicated professionals at AmeriCam know only too well that there is far too much work to be done - to effect that 'significant change' in accidents, injuries and in teen mortality rates.   Until they've done so - congratulatory gestures are on hold.

"Teens have had their faces buried in their game consoles, their cell phones or other hand-held digital devices since they were small children - and now they're driving vehicles on our roads... "

Out of the Blue - A New Day Is Upon Us...

Exactly what are 'Accident Avoidance Systems' and how can they help prevent accidents?

AmeriCam's product line of 'Collision Avoidance Technology' begins with the world's best accident avoidance systems from Mobileye.  The 'ME 560' consists of a tiny camera device installed between the rear-view mirror and the windshield.  This camera is mounted upon space-age technology engineered by NASA into a computer chip that keeps track of everything taking place in front of the vehicle.

Everything within view of the system is quickly analyzed to determine if dangerous conditions are developing. If so, these conditions are identified, categorized and presented to the driver in any one of nearly ten individual audio and/or visual alerts.  For example, if the vehicle with the advanced technology is approaching the vehicle ahead at an unsafe speed or distance, an audio alarm is activated while a bright categorically-specific alert lights up on a display mounted on the dashboard directly in front of the driver.

This warns the driver to take evasive action in order to avoid making contact with what lies ahead.  The driver has been afforded the time required to avoid the accident, or at the very least - mitigate matters.  Another example might be if a pedestrian were to suddenly begin to cross the path of the vehicle equipped with the new device.  Once again, a unique alarm alerts the driver to take appropriate measures to avoid hitting the pedestrian.

This is how AmeriCam ATLANTA and Mobileye help drivers avoid accidents.  Mobileye's standard system includes a small, round display to warn the driver.  The concerned and dedicated employee/owners of AmeriCam have unanimously agreed to cover the cost to upgrade the unit's display to a much larger, more effective smart phone to deliver increased information to the driver when trouble presents itself.  The phone upgrade requires absolutely no monthly payments as it's only being used as an advanced display and control for the Mobileye unit.

How does adding another ‘digital distraction’ (cell phone) to the mix help matters, especially for inexperienced teen drivers?

Another task the cellular control module can perform - optionally - is to run an app that keeps a detailed log of all system activity.  It turns out that keeping track of all warnings performed by the device is key in helping teen drivers develop good, safe driving skills that can last their entire lifetime.  Reports from activity logs can be retrieved from or generated by the system at whatever frequency desired.

In the beginning, inexperienced drivers may engage the alarm as many as ten to twenty times per day or more.  It is very important that a parent or counselor review each of the reports generated by the system with the new driver.  This must be done in detail and on a regular basis until the driver has reached established training goals.

Researchers have found that drivers are not very fond of the sound of the alarm or the flashing of its display.  It’s not only annoying, but embarrassing as well.  Subconsciously, drivers will do what-ever they can to avoid experiencing the annoying alarm again.  That includes avoiding distractions and paying far better attention to the road.

The more experience and safe skills the driver develops, the less the unit is called upon for correction.  Over time, once the driver has developed and is displaying safer and greatly improved driving skills - the system becomes all but forgotten.  It is usually triggered by the faulty driving habits of others, but continues to help drivers avoid dangerous and costly collisions.

If the driver should happen to fall back into old, destructive driving behavior, they're reminded by the system only too soon - to improve their driving patterns once again.

AmeriCam offers a more intense behavior modification program for the more hard-core of drivers.  Details are available for discussion with parents or guardians only.  AmeriCam requests that program details be kept confidential.

Entire systems are available for $895, not including installation.  Special 'Free-Camera Upgrade' offer is available while supplies last.  Please call the dedicated specialists at AmeriCam ATLANTA for details or they can be emailed at [email protected] .
